Boys and Girls Track Teams Fall to LHN

In brutally cold conditions at Lutheran North, the Boys Track and Field team lost by a slim six point margin, 67-61.  The Girls team also came out on the wrong side, losing 84-44. Senior Matthew Durkin was double winner in sprints, taking the 100m dash with a time of 11.71 and the 200m dash in 23.87.  Senior Chris Wardlow also scored for the Irish with a third place finish in the 100m dash in 12.32.  Senior Patrick Anger had second place results in the 200m dash in 24.86 and the long jump, 18” 4.75”. Durkin and Anger teamed with senior Brendan O’Sullivan and freshman Nolan Mylenek crossed the line first in 1:36.79, just over a second off the school record in the 800m relay. In the 400m dash, senior Aidan Schurig finished second in 53.66 and freshman Luke Cummings was third in 56.63.  Schurig won the 800m run, though, with a time of 2:10.75 while senior Alex Leonowicz was third in 2:14.68. Senior Andrew Durkin had a pair of placings in hurdle events by taking second in the 110m hurdles in 17.59 and third in the 300m hurdles in 45.43. The Fraser brothers combined for a 1-2 finish in the 1600m run.  Brendan was the winner in 4:39 and Niko raced to a time of 4:49.  Niko led the way in the 3200m run in 10:16.08. In field events, seniors John Paul Terzano and Matthew Winiarski placed second and third, respectively with tosses of 106’ 11” and 100’ 5”. On the girls side, freshman Kathryn Lee took third place in the 100m dash in 15.71.  Sophomore Anna Miklas scored with a pair of second place finishes, first in the 400m dash in 1:08.83 and again in the 800m run in 2:45.59.  Sophomore Lauren Neiheisel topped all runners in the 1600m run in 5:43.46. Freshman Bridgette Joslin and sophomore Abby Rankin had their own 1-2 finish in the 3200m run.  Joslin ran 13:30.33 and Rankin was close behind in 13:34.30. In field events , senior Jessica Ratliff was first in the shot put with a toss of 28’ 11” and second in the discus with a throw of 68” 3”.  Junior Jazyonne Daniels was third in the discus with a 64’ 0” effort.
