The Notre Dame Girls and Boys Cross Country teams finished 2nd and 14th overall at the Coaching Legends Classic Invitational held at Huron Meadows Metro Park in Brighton.
The girls team was led by senior Lexi Case (18:40) and junior Jenny Ohlsson (18:45) who finished 2nd and 3rd overall, marking the first time in school history where two female runners have broken the 19:00 minute barrier in the same meet. The only other female athlete to break 19:00 for the 5000 Kilometer distance was Sara Barron, where she set the school record with an 18:24 at the MHSAA state finals in 2012. This is the second race this season and third time in her career that Ohlsson broke 19:00. Sophomore Lexi Fraser ran a personal record (20:14) to finish 10th overall. Shannon Lambrecht, a steady force all-season, finished 24th with a time of 21:06. KC Kennedy (21:44) and Emma Wallace (21:46) rounded out the varsity team whose performance has placed them either 1st or 2nd in five out of six invitationals this season.
The JV team also finished 2nd overall, with freshman Tess Censoni (21:41), freshman Katie Stacey (22:48), sophomore Allie Dawiedczyk (23:10) and sophomore Maddie Monaghan (23:13) all placing in the top 10. Censoni was the overall winner of the JV race.
The boys competed well despite missing their top two runners. Senior Aaron Crane (18:17), sophomore Nate Vogel (18:35), sophomore Adam Martin (18:41), junior Eric Gaynor (18:42) and senior Mitchell Guest (18:59) were the top scorers for the boys. Evan Wells, Matt DeAngelis and Palmer McGuire all set personal records in the varsity meet along with Matt Wood and Ben Pocius who also competed on the varsity team. Giuseppe Fregoli and Matthias Rangel were the top runner in the JV meet.
Next up for the Irish is the Oakland County Championship, where the girls look to defend their DII Championship.
