Notre Dame Varsity Volleyball went 6-0 at the Davison tournament to take home their sixth tournament title of the season. The victories improves Notre Dame to 49-5 on the season as the Irish have now taken their last 39 matches.
Notre Dame opened pool play with a 25-10, 25-14 win over Grosse Pointe South. Maddy Chinn scored 14 points from the serving line and had 13 kills and 10 digs. Freshmen Josie Bloom (three points, 10 digs) and Aly Borellis (three points, seven kills, nine assists and six digs) also had strong performances. The Irish then quickly dispatched of Saginaw Heritage 25-6, 25-14. Maria Famularo (18 points, five aces, seven assists and three digs) and Natalie Risi (eight points, three aces, six kills and 11 digs) led the way. Chinn had a match-high 11 kills and added eight digs. In the final match of pool play the Irish never trailed as they took the match 25-17, 25-9 over host Davison. Olivia Kowalkowski and Risi each had nine points, three aces and six digs while Risi added eight kills. Bloom served up six points and seven digs and Borellis had 11 assists and six digs. Chinn added six more kills to her team-leading total.
As the number one seed the Irish drew the eight seed Lapeer and earned a 25-15, 25-10 win. Bloom had 12 points and six digs. Risi contributed 13 points, five aces, nine kills and 10 digs. Chinn had nine kills, a pair of blocks and eight digs. Emily Mohr continues to lead the team in blocks as she added three more to her totals.
In the semifinal match up Linden nearly pulled off a win in the first set as they took a 4-3 lead and led until the Irish tied the set at 23. An ace by Risi (14 points, five aces, seven kills and eight digs) and a kill by Famularo (six points, five assists) sealed the first set win as the Irish took the match 25-23, 25-11. Chinn added 13 kills and three blocks to once again led all attackers. Borellis had a team-high 12 assists to go with six digs.
The Irish met up with Mount Pleasant in the final and played their best match of the tournament as they defeated the Oilers 25-11, 25-17. Risi with nine kills, nine points and three aces and Chinn with eight kills, six points, three digs and a season-high six blocks led the Irish to the title. Bloom with nine points and Kowalkowski with six points, including three aces, were also strong at the service line. Borellis added nine assists and Famularo had seven assists in the match.
