The Notre Dame Boys Swimming team took home a 5th place finish at the CHSL Finals meet held at the Livonia Recreation Center over the weekend. The Irish started the day out strong as the 200 medley relay team of Aidan Schurig, Peter McNelis, Carl Wacker, and Rudy Aguilar earned a 4th place finish with a season-best time of 1:39.17. Three Notre Dame swimmers would then place in the 200 freestyle as Schurig (8th, 1:50.44), Wacker (14th, 1:56.06), and Zach Vogel (16th, 1:58.79) all finished with strong times. The Irish would earn points courtesy of a 3rd place finish from Schurig in the 100 free (47.45) to go along with a number of 4th place finish in events on the day including Aguilar in the 200 IM (1:55.87) and 100 backstroke (52.52), and the 400 free relay team of Schurig, Thomas Robbins, Peter McNelis, and Aguilar (3:20.79). Other notable swims came from Wacker in the 100 breaststroke (season-best 1:04.40), the 200 free relay team of Vogel, Matt LaMothe, Robbins, and Nick Hariskos (6th, 1:38.78), and Peter McNelis, who earned a state cut in the 100 fly (13th, 56.54). The swim team now heads to the MHSAA Division III state final meet on Friday and Saturday at Eastern Michigan University. Competition on both days begins at 12:00.
