Notre Dame Varsity Volleyball punched their ticket to the MHSAA Final Four in Battle Creek with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-14 win over Corunna. The Irish, 62-2-2 will play Fruitport in the state semifinal match at the Kellogg Center on Friday. This will be the 4th trip to the final four for Notre Dame in the last 11 years.
The scrappy Cavalier defense slowed the Irish offense down as they made several saves to extend rallies and their tough serves seemed to get keep the Irish offense out of system for much of the match. Notre Dame had to alter their game plan to create some openings for the potent offense to put the ball down.
Seniors Olivia Heming (9 points, 1 ace, 10 digs) and Gabrielle Shilling (11 kills, 5 blocks) helped lead the Irish while Taylor Raiola added 6 points, 11 kills, 2 blocks and 8 digs. Natalie Risi had 7 points 4 aces, 6 kills and 8 digs, Morgan Verheyen finished with 8 kills 2 blocks, Maria Famularo added 9 points and 9 digs and Maddy Chinn contributed 3 points, 11 kills, 3 blocks and 7 digs to the balanced Notre Dame attack.
