The Notre Dame Varsity Volleyball team keep rolling as they used a diversified attack and stellar defense to extend their win streak to 32 matches and improved to 42-5 for the season in taking the Marysville tournament.
The Irish opened pool play with a pair of wins over Utica Ford (25-11, 25-12) and Yale (2-8, 25-14) to come as the #1 seed. In the powerpool round the Irish continued their winning ways defeating Port Huron (25-14, 25-15) and Marine City (25-9, 25-14).
The 4-0 record placed the Irish as the top overall seed going into the gold bracket. Notre Dame defeated Port Huron once again in the semifinal, this time 25-7, 28-8 to set up the championship match with host Marysville. The Irish took control early and defeated the Vikings 25-9, 25-9.
Senior Maddy Chinn finished the tournament with 48 kills, 52 digs and 19 service points while Natalie Risi added 45 points, 31 kills and 53 digs. Risi, who currently leads the state in aces added 18 to her total during the tournament. Maria Famularo had 49 assists, 18 digs and 14 kills, Aly Borellis had 48 assists, 29 points, 25 kills and 13 digs, Josie Bloom had 27 digs and Olivia Kowalkowski had 22 digs and 22 points.
The Irish also received contributions from Bianca Giglio (17 points, 20 kills, 15 digs), Emily Mohr (12 digs, seven blocks), Theresa Carrier (five kills), Sophia Sudzina (10 points, 14 assists) and Lily Chase (eight kills, five digs).
