Notre Dame Volleyball won its 5th tournament of the season, going undefeated at the Richmond invitational. Notre Dame, the top ranked team in Class B (41-2-2) and 19th ranked in the nation by PrepVolleyball, has now won 30 straight matches.
The Irish started the day defeating Lutheran North 25-7, 25-11. Natalie Risi scored 12 points with 6 aces and 6 kills. Maddy Chinn chipped in 8 kills while Gabi Shilling collected 4 blocks.
Next up for Notre Dame was Erie Mason. Risi stayed strong at the serving line scoring a record-high (for a two set match) 26 points with13 aces. Chinn added 6 kills while Maria Famularo had 4. Shilling finished with 3 blocks in the match.
The final match in pool play saw Notre Dame dominate Marine City 25-11, 25-13. Risi had 4 points, 3 more aces, 4 kills and 3 digs while Morgan Holycross had 6 points, an ace, 4 kills and 2 blocks. Chinn added 9 more kills and Famularo contributed 4 kills.
The Irish came out of pool play as the number one seed and took on host Richmond. The Irish picked up where they left off with a 25-10, 25-16 victory. Risi scored 13 points, 3 aces and had a pair of kills. Chinn added 10 kills while Shilling had 8 kills to go with 3 blocks.
In the tournament finals the Irish met up with Battle Creek Lakeview and earned a 25-14, 25-11 victory to take the title. Risi collected 6 more points with a pair of aces, 4 kills, 4 blocks, and 5 digs. Morgan Verheyen and Famularo added 6 points and Taylor Raiola had 5 kills, 8 blocks and 2 digs. Shilling picked up 4 kills and 4 blocks, Chinn had 14 kills and Lauren Burnick picked up 48 assists on the day
