Notre Dame took the silver division at the Walled Lake Central Invite, going 3-1-1 on the day to finish off the regular season at 43-9-5. The Irish started the day by defeating Walled Lake Western 25-5, 25-7. Gabby Shilling led all attackers with 6 kills while Maddy Chinn and Caitlin Fitzgerald each chipped in with 5. Cassie Harris scored 10 points from the serving line including 4 aces. In the second match of the day against Bloomfield, Notre Dame came out slow and dropped the opening set 25-18. However the Irish rebounded nicely, taking a commanding 21-7 early lead in the second set and holding off a Blackhawks run to earn a split with a 25-14 win. Shilling was once again strong at the net as she collected 6 more kills and 2 blocks. Emma Kowalkowski scored 8 points (2 aces) and had 15 digs. Marisa Ciszweski led a balanced attack with15 assists. The final match of pool play saw the Irish take on Novi, currently the top-ranked team in class A. The Wildcats showed why they have the number one ranking, taking down the Irish 25-17, 25-10. Natalie Risi and Chinn each had 4 kills in the match. The loss to Novi and the split with Bloomfield dropped the Irish to 3rd place in the pool and into the silver bracket. Notre Dame took the silver bracket by defeating Rochester 25-9 and 25-13 and Divine Child 25-18, 25-19. Aggressive serving was the key for the Irish against Rochester. Ciszewski scored 14 points (4 aces) and Amanda Carty scored 10 points (3 aces) to lead the team while Megan Galvin led in assists with 5. Notre Dame met CHSL opponent Divine Child in the finals. Kowalkowski served up 10 points and had a team high 17 digs, Jackie Lopez and Chinn each had 7 kills, and Ciszewski added 15 assists to her team leading totals. The Irish now look towards the MHSAA tournament where they will open up district play on Monday at home against Lamphere.
