Meet the 2018 Michigan Miss Volleyball nominees

Ten high school players have been named finalists for Miss Volleyball in Michigan. 

Finalists were selected by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association. This year's nominees include: 

Desiree Becker

Sr., DeWitt, Middle hitter

The stats: 768 career kills, recorded 393 in 2017; 286 career blocks, recorded 136 in 2017. 

The buzz: First-team All-League 2016 and 2017; All-Area Lansing State Journal in 2016; Dream Team Lansing State Journal 2017; two-time MIVCA All-Region team member; first-team All-State 2017; committed to Northwestern. 

Paige Briggs

Sr., Lake Orion, Outside hitter

The stats: Despite injury-shortened 2017 season, finished with 354 kills, 26 aces and 186 digs; as a sophomore had 420 kills and 307 digs. 

The buzz: Despite suffering an injury in 2017, made second-team All-State and was an All-Region player; also named All-Region in 2016; committed to Western Kentucky. 

Madeline Chinn

Sr., Notre Dame Prep, Outside hitter

The stats: Career stats include 1,874 kills, 389 blocks, 889 digs and 170 aces. 

The buzz: First-team All-State Class B in 2017 and 2016, second-team All-State in 2015; 2017 MaxPreps Underclass All-American Volleyball team selection; Free Press Volleyball Player of the Year nominee; committed to Purdue. 

Madison Dowd

Sr., Bloomfield Hills Marian, Setter

The stats: In 2017, recorded 1,531 assists, which is the is fourth highest season total in MHSAA Class A history; also career total of 3,270 career assists is third best in MHSAA Class A history for a career. 

The buzz: First-team All-State 2017; Class A All-Region first team in 2017 and 2016; Free Press Volleyball Player of the Year nominee; set MHSAA four-set match record with 59 assists on Sept. 15, 2016. 

Ryann Jaqua, Portage Central

Sr., Portage Central, Outside hitter

The stats: Member of the SMAC West Division champions three years in a row. 

The buzz: First-team All-State in 2016, second-team All-State 2017; SMAC All-Division first team in 2016 and 2017, second team in 2015; All-Region 2015-17.

Kiera Lasky

Sr., Bronson, Libero

The stats: Has 2,215 career digs; as a junior, had 140 aces and a 93 percent serve percentage; tied for 15th in state history for recording 21 digs in the 2017 state championship match. 

The buzz: Member of the Class C state championship team 2015, '16 and '17; First-team All-League and All-State 2016 and 2017; 2017 MaxPreps Junior All-American Volleyball Team; 2017 Michigan High School Volleyball Insider Class C Player of the Year.  

Natalie Risi

Sr., Notre Dame Prep, Outside hitter

The stats: Career 1,077 kills, 319 aces, 208 blocks and 1,239 digs. 

The buzz: First-team All-State 2017, second-team All-State 2016; Division I All-American team (National Athletic Association of Private Schools); first-team All-Region in 2016; committed to Ball State. 

Jessica Robinson

Sr., Troy, Outside hitter

The stats: Career stats are 1,174 kills, 101 blocks, 122 aces and 588 digs. 

The buzz: Three-time All-State, All-Region and OAA All-League player; 2018 JVA All American. 

Sidney Schiller

Sr., Battle Creek Lakeview, Outside hitter

The stats: Career 1,764 digs, 1,406 kills and 308 blocks; also has a 95 percent career serve percentage. 

The buzz: First-team SMAC in 2016 and '17; All-City Team 2015-2017; All-Region 2015-17; second-team All-State in 2016 and '17; committed to Purdue. 

Allyson Severance

Sr., North Branch, Outside hitter

The stats: Career total of 1,444 kiss (726 as a junior), 1,005 digs and 216 aces. 

The buzz: First-team All-State as a freshman and junior; In 2017, named All-Region and All-League; committed to Miami (Ohio).
