At the Oakland County Championships held at Novi High School, an elite group of Notre Dame Track and Field athletes scored a few top finishes and set bunches of personal best marks.
Leading the way for the boys were brothers Brendan and Niko Fraser. Competing in the 3200m run amongst the county’s best distance runners, senior Brendan Fraser placed second in a season best time of 9:24.34. Junior Niko Fraser recorded a massive personal record of 9:26.07, placing fourth. Niko Fraser improved his personal best time by 17 seconds. Both runners are peaking at the perfect time with the Division II State Finals looming. Racing in the 800m run, junior John Pieper set his own personal record with a time of 2:01.83, good for 19th place. Senior John Paul Terzano competed in the discus and placed 12th with a throw of 132’ 1”. Senior Andrew Blocki raced the 100m, the same event he’ll compete in at the State Finals, and finished 10th in 11.53.
In relays, the 4x100m team of junior Thomas Below, junior Alec Gaboury, sophomore Nolan Mylenek, and Blocki combined for a season best time of 45.49 and a 16th place finish.
On the girls side, junior Lauren Neiheisel smashed her previous personal record in the 1600m run, racing to a 5:04.98 and placing seventh. Neiheisel would also race the 800m and accomplish a season best time of 2:21.90 to place 14th. Sophomore Lexi Case ran the 800m and placed 25th in 2:28.18, also personal best.
In field events for the girls, junior Destiny Sandle tossed the shot put 32’ 5.75” to place 12th while junior Maddie Scherle jumped a personal best 14’ 7.5” in the long jump to place 15th. In relays, the 4x800m team of Case, junior Claire Seitzinger, junior Abby Rankin, and freshman Jennifer Ohlsson ran a season best 10:14.28, good for 9th place.
Next up is the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals at Zeeland High School on June 3rd.
