Notre Dame Varsity Volleyball won its fourth tournament of the season, going undefeated at the Mt Morris Invitational this past weekend. Notre Dame improved to 35-5 and extended its win streak to 25 straight matches in the process.
The Irish opened play against Division II honorable mention ranked Grant. While the Irish never trailed in either of the sets, the two teams battled through some long rallies until Notre Dame finally pulled out the 25-21, 25-20 win. In the second match the Irish lead wire-to-wire in a 25-15, 25-15 win over Port Huron Norther. In the final match of pool play, Notre Dame earned a two set sweep of future district opponent Brandon.
The semifinal found the Irish facing Rochester Adams. The Highlanders took and early advantage and held onto the lead until the 22 point mark when the Irish finally tied up the match and then went on to win 25-23. The second set was all Notre Dame as the Irish won 25-16. In the final, Notre Dame once again defeated Grant, this time 25-18, 25-11 to take the tournament.
Maddy Chinn finished the tournament with a team-high 56 kills to go with 41 digs, 12 blocks and 10 points. Natalie Risi added 41 kills, 39 digs, 39 points and 16 aces while Maria Famularo finished with 39 assists, 28 kills, 34 digs and 13 points. Aly Borellis had 56 assists, 19 kills, 21 points, 32 digs and 10 blocks, Josie Bloom had 23 points and 21 digs and Olivia Kowalkowski chipped in with 31 digs and 18 points.
