Notre Dame Takes Bloomfield Invite

Notre Dame improved to 32-6-3 and won their third tournament of the year as the Irish went 5-0-1 at the Bloomfield Invitational. The Irish opened the day by defeating Oakland Christian 25-5, 25-19 behind the play of Emma Kowalkowski, who finished with 10 serving points and 17 digs.  Morgan Veheyen led the offensive attack with 5 kills and 3 blocks.  The second match of the day saw Notre Dame defeat Oak park  25-11, 25-6  Kennedy Dorantes served up 8 points, Maddy Chinn had 8 kills, and Kowalkowski added another 10 digs to her totals. Notre Dame split with Farmington Harrison in the final match of pool play with the Irish taking the first 25-18 and Harrison fighting back to take the second 26-24.  Kowalkowski had 7 points and 17 digs.  Freshmen Natalie Risi had 6 kills and 14 digs and Chinn led all attackers with 11 kills. Although Notre Dame won their side of the pool, the Irish found themselves seeded third heading into the elimination round. Notre Dame took on Cabrini in the quarterfinal and earned a 25-16, 25-8 win.  Risi and Chinn once again led the attack with 7 and 8 kills respectively while Kowalkowski had yet another standout game on defense with 20 digs. In the semifinal round of action, Notre Dame sent Rochester Adams home by scores of 25-17. 25-17.  Marisa Ciszewski had 11 serving points and 12 assists and Kowalkowski added another 20 digs.  Gabby Shilling,  Risi, and Chinn each collected 7 kills in the balanced attack. Notre Dame and Harrison matched up once again in the finals. This time the Irish came out swinging and took the tournament by scores of 25-9, 25-20.  Risi and Chinn (7 and 10 kills) once again led the Irish offense as Notre Dame hit for a .527 average.  Kowalkowski led the defense with 13 digs.
