Notre Dame Varsity Volleyball wons its tournament of the season, beating the #2 team in Class B, North Branch, in the championship match at the Goodrich Invite.
The Irish opened the day with a 25-17, 25-8 win over Davison. Natalie Risi was stellar from the serving line with 11 points, including 4 aces, to go along with 5 kills and 4 digs. Maddy Chinn collected 10 kills and Gabi Shilling added 5 while Lauren Burnick racked up 17 assists.
Next up for Notre Dame was Linden and the Irish continued their strong play. Olivia Heming scored on 7 serves, including an ace, Taylor Raiola added 6 points, 4 kills and 3 blocks and Chinn and Morgan Verheyen added 5 kills each. Riley Cooper and Burnick each had 9 assists.
In the final match of pool play Notre Dame earned a 25-9, 25-5 win over Bentley. Heming led the way with 8 points (7 aces), Risi had 7 points and 5 aces and Audrey Damman and Cooper added 5 points and 3 aces each.
Notre Dame drew Davison once again in the semifinal and promptly eliminated the Cardinals 25-14, 25-12. Risi once again led all scorers with 10 points. Raiola added 7, including a pair of aces, and 10 kills. Heming had 6 points, Chinn added 9 kills and 3 blocks and Gabi Shilling had 7 blocks. Burnick collected 17 more assists to her team leading totals.
The Championship match featured the top two ranked teams in Class B, Notre Dame and North Branch. North Branch scored first in both sets and the Irish responded to tie it on the next point. The first set turned in favor of the Irish after a monster kill by Chinn on an overpass. Chinn went on to collect 8 kills while Risi once again was dominate from the service line scoring 9 points, including 6 aces, while adding 6 kills and 8 digs. Damman had 5 points and 4 digs. Raiola added 5 kills, 6 blocks and 5 digs and Burnick dished out an additional 15 assists to go with her 8 digs. Shilling tallied another 5 blocks and 4 kills as the Irish took the win in straight sets 25-13, 25-17.
