Does Jason Gendreau already have a signature win even though it was just his opening game as the Notre Dame Prep baseball coach?
Gendreau, who stepped down at Eisenhower following the 2017 season, watched from the dugout as his Fighting Irish held on for a 10-9 victory over highly regarded Stevenson on Monday.
Notre Dame Prep carried a 10-3 lead into the seventh inning, when a string of Stevenson hits coupled with a few Irish errors made things precariously close.
The winning NDP pitcher was Jack Krausmann.
The Irish accumulated 16 hits, led by Krausmann and Ryan Knutson, who had three hits each. Knutson had two doubles. Wade Bonnici knocked in three runs.
It was also Stevenson’s first game.
