Runners Prepare for Regionals at Williamston Meet

Competing in their last invitational prior to Saturday’s MHSAA Regional meet, the Boys Track and Field team placed fifth and the Girls were sixth at the Williamston Invitational at Williamston High School.

For the boys, senior Andrew Blocki made it through to the finals in the 100m dash, placing fifth in 11.55.  Junior Eric Silver had a breakthrough race in the 400m dash, placing fifth in a personal best 55.03.  In mid-distance and distance events, junior John Pieper ran the 800m and set a new personal record of 2:06.25, finishing second, and freshman James Ohlsson had his own second place finish in the 1600m run in 4:36.98, also a personal best.  Senior Brendan Fraser and junior Niko Fraser went two-three in the 3200m run in 9:48.10 9:48.56, respectively.

 In field events, senior John Paul Terzano placed fourth overall in the discus with a personal best throw of 134’ 11”.

On the girls side, junior Lauren Neiheisel won the 1600m run in 5:23.47 and was third in the 800m run with a time of 2:29.27.  Sophomore Lexi Case, competing in the same events, was third in the 1600m run in 5:31.66 and sixth in the 800m run in 2:32.40.  Freshman Jennifer Ohlsson took fifth in the 1600m run at 5:32.13 and fourth in the 3200m run in 12:20.40.  Running in the 100m dash final, sophomore Paige Gollinger had her best result of the season, placing fourth in 13.60, while sophomore Carly Zeoli was seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 30.06.

Off the track, sophomore Madeline Scherle had a personal best in the long jump, placing fourth with a leap of 14’ 6.5”.

In relays, the girls 4x800m team of Case, junior Meredith Tiller, junior Claire Seitzinger, and Ohlsson placed third in 10:44.48 and the 4x400m relay team consisting of Case, Neiheisel, junior Katelyn Kozole, and junior Ella Bone was also third in 4:31.62.  The boys 4x800m team of Niko Fraser, Ohlsson, Pieper, and sophomore Mitch Guest was fourth in 8:38.75.

The teams now head into the championship part of their schedule, competing in the MHSAA Division 2 Regional on Saturday and the Oakland County Championships next Friday.
