CHSL Finals Preview -- Pontiac Notre Dame Prep is also looking to for a chance at redemption Saturday when it takes on Flint Powers Catholic in the Catholic League B finals. The Fighting Irish (12-3) handled Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard with a 19-6 win Wednesday in the semifinals while the Chargers (11-4) defeated Madison Heights Bishop Foley.

“(Wednesday) was a good turnaround for us after coming off a couple of tough losses to some good teams,” Notre Dame Prep coach Ben Ingram said after Wednesday’s game. “I think it was good for our team morale, especially heading into the Catholic League championship and then the state tournament a few weeks down the road.”

The Fighting Irish have faced Flint Powers twice this season, losing a pair of close games. They’ll be looking to get the last laugh Saturday and claim another Catholic League tournament championship.

“Well we’ve played them twice in the regular season already and it wasn’t really more than we expected to see out of them, but I just felt like we didn’t really come out and play to our full potential,” Ingram said. “We know we’re expecting a 3-3 zone out of them again. They’re a good team with solid players at the attack and on defense which is key for everybody, so basically it’ll come down to who works harder on Saturday.” (MIPrepzone, May 13, 2011)

Notre Dame Prep 19, AA Richard 6 - Brandon Beauregard scored six goals and Alex Verwilst added three scores to lead Pontiac Notre Dame Prep to a 19-6 victory over Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard in the Catholic League B Division boys lacrosse tournament Wednesday night. This will be the third meeting between Flint Powers and the Fighting Irish this season, with Flint Powers having won the previous two.
“We certainly know they’re a good team and we’ve had some difficulty against them this season but we’re looking forward to getting another shot,” Notre Dame Prep coach Ben Ingram said. “Tonight was a nice bounce back win for us after a couple of losses so hopefully we can continue that and play well Saturday.” (Oakland Press, May 12, 2011)
