Book Club
The club for book lovers! Students get together monthly to talk about their favorite books.
The club for book lovers! Students get together monthly to talk about their favorite books.
Chess Club
Students play chess (or checkers) and perfect their games. What a relaxing way to enjoy an intramural period! A contest is held at the end of each school year.
Christian Service Program (required)
This program outlines opportunities for our students to serve and help others who are less fortunate. Some planned activities include working at homeless centers and canned food drives. This program plays an important role in the Marist Academy religion curriculum.
Computer Club
Students play computer games, complete projects, or practice computer skills during the intramural period under the direction of a teacher.
Detroit Country Day Math Invitational
Four students are selected by the math department to represent Marist Academy at Detroit Country Day School. The purpose for this competition is to promote interest and team spirit in competitive mathematics.
Drama Club
Drama Club offers students another opportunity to become involved with other Marist Academy students. Student thespians learn the fundamentals of drama (i.e. acting, set design, stage crew, lighting, etc.) Annual fall and spring musicals are held in our cafetorium.
Environmental Club
The Environmental Club is open to any student interested in nature, outdoor education, or environmental issues. Meetings are scheduled bimonthly during the intramural period, and include a wide variety of activities. Some of the activities planned for this year involve guest speakers, recycling in the building, nature walks, tree identification, discussion of local environmental issues, and much more!
Field Day
During this fun-filled planned fun day in the spring, Marist Academy students compete in well-planned outdoor field activities. Students enjoy a barbeque provided by the Parents Club after the games.
F.I.R.S.T. Lego League
FLL combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program and a research presentation with a sportslike atmosphere. Students focus on such things as team building, problem solving, creativity, and analytical thinking. Your child will experience the entire process of creating ideas, solving problems, envisioning possibilities, and developing innovative solutions to technology challenges.
Forensics
Students compete at the state level (MIFA) in several areas of speech competition (Extemporaneous, Dramatic Duo, Poetry, Prose, etc.) Forensics at this level prepares students for high school competition. Due to forensic practice and competition, students become more confident and articulate speakers. Forensic practice periods are generally held once a week (with their coaches) during the intramural period.
Friendship Club
Also known as the Get Acquainted Club, this is a fun way to get to know other students and develop social skills. The Friendship Club meets during the first ten weeks of school.
Irish Week
Students and faculty enjoy a sprit week in March. The week's activities include a St. Patrick's Day liturgy, hall decorating, inter-grade level competition, free pizza, etc. It is a great week to strengthen friendships and have fun!
Math Club
Students are offered an opportunity to have fun with math! Each student enjoys this club regardless of his/her ability. Math students will compete in Math Olympiad annually.
MathCounts
This math activity is a cooperative project of CAN, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Dow Chemical Company Foundation, Phillips Petroleum Company, Texas Instruments Incorporated, 3M Foundation, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Several students are invited to compete in this highly challenging competition.
MathFax
MathFax is a national mathematics competition designed to improve general mathematics ability and improve test taking skills. Students in grades seven and eight represent Marist Academy in the annual Algebra I competitions. We compete in the Catholic Schools Division as well as the all-schools division. Marist Academy received 1st place in the Midwest Region for 2005, 2006, and 2007!
Michigan Mathematics League
Students compete as a team for awards given to the highest scoring school in each county or the overall League award.
National Geographic Geography Bee
This educational outreach program is a nationwide contest which is sponsored by National Geographic World and the Daimler-Chrysler Corporation. The first prize winner receives a $25,000 college scholarship. Students from schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the National Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Department of Defense Dependents Schools take part in the National Geographic Geography Bee. An eighth grade student from Marist Academy represented the state of Michigan as the state champion in 1999.

National Junior Honor Society
Seventh and eighth grade students who have achieved a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA and have demonstrated leadership and character attributes are considered for NJHS membership. The induction ceremony is held each spring.
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
The awards are part of a broad initiative created by Prudential to encourage young people to become involved in community service. Other elements of the initiative include The Prudential Youth Leadership Institute, a community leadership training program for high school students, and a variety of educational materials for young people and teachers relating to youth volunteerism. An eighth grade student from Marist Academy represented the state of Michigan as the top middle school volunteer of the year and a State Honoree in 2002.
Scholastic Art Awards
Established in 1923, this prestigious national competition was established to foster and recognize achievement in the arts. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to submit their work in this program.
Scholastic Olympics
Scholastic Olympics is an academic competition for eighth graders. Students are selected to represent Marist Academy in various subject areas. Many other Catholic schools in our area are invited to compete. Marist Academy competitors placed first in seven of the last eleven competitions.

Students design, build and tune rubber band powered planes that fly for two minutes with "motors" developed using a torque meter, robotic devices that pick up and deposit parts and pop balloons, balsa wood tower and bridge structures that hold 1,500 times their weight and a catapult that accurately throws various size/weight objects. Written events include ecology, astronomy, forensics, Fermi questions (e.g., estimate how many gallons of water are in Lake Michigan) and numerous other interesting topics, 23 in all! The team competes against other schools at the Regional Competition held at Lawrence Tech University..

Sociedad Hispanica de Amistad (Spanish Society of Friendship)
The purpose of the society is to promote cross-cultural acceptance and understanding of Spanish and Portuguese cultures and to encourage service to school and community. The society inducted its first members on February 7, 2002. We have the honor of being the first chapter in the state of Michigan.
Student Leadership Service Club (formerly S.T.A.N.D.)
The Student Leadership Service Club (SLS) is an identifiable group of middle school students assuming a major responsibility for their own leadership and facilitated by a parent-educator team. This group meets regularly to address these five components: Skill Development, Community Service, Parent Participation, Social Activities, and Safety Belt Awareness.
Ski Club
Both Prep and Academy novice and experienced skiers enjoy skiing at a local ski resort (weather permitting) once a week after school.
Student Council
Students who enjoy the challenge and excitement of planning student activities and strengthening their leadership abilities should consider running for a Student Council position in the fall. Students meet throughout the school year to plan dances, activities, and Christian Service projects.
Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl
This fun and team building activity is offered to all grades. Over one hundred Michigan computer teams compete annually. In 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003 Marist Academy competitors placed 1st in the state! Approximately one week prior to the event, entrants receive the official contest disk of 100 outstanding, thought-provoking, multiple choice questions. Categories include history, spelling, math, science, current events, literature, government, sports, geography, general information, and fun trivia. Speed and accuracy build the highest score.
Video Club
The Video Club is an opportunity for students to be a part of the film Marist Academy "The Year In Review." Our members will be filming sporting events, special events and clubs, as well as capturing the everyday lives of Marist students. The video will be sold at the end of the year to parents and faculty.
Yearbook
The Yearbook Club meets during the intramural period to create the Marist Academy yearbook. Under the direction of the moderator, students write copy, learn lay-out techniques, and take photographs. If you are a hard-working and creative student, this would be an exciting club to join!
