Work Continues on the New Science Labs
The importance of science in our rapidly changing society is unquestioned. Proper training of the scientists, researchers, physicists and chemists of tomorrow is not just necessary, but absolutely necessary. Therefore it is of vital importance that leading schools like Notre Dame Preparatory and Marist Academy stay on the cutting edge of preparing students for successful post-secondary study in the sciences.
In an effort to further enhance NDPMA's curriculum in the sciences, the administration has approved of and construction has begun on the complete renovation of the science and chemistry labs located on the Pontiac campus. Among the major steps taken in the renovation project is that classroom C-3, which was a biology lab, will be converted to a chemistry lab. This means that after the work is completed at the end of the summer break, the school's two chemistry labs will be adjacent to one another. The biology labs will now also be together in the B-wing.

Additional exhaust/fume hoods and fans will be added to the chemistry lab along with new gas and water lines. New and better lighting, flooring, lab tables and cabinets also will be added and because of the way the tables will be configured, students will be facing all in the same direction, a welcome feature according to the science faculty.
According to NDPMA facilities manager Julie Frakes, the project "is right on schedule with HVAC work slated to begin on Monday."
Interior Partnership Group (IPG), an architectural, construction and facilities management company headquartered in Clawson, is overseeing the project. IPG has extensive experience in science lab renovation and construction, including many projects at the university level.
The total cost of the renovation is estimated at $200,000, the majority of which was donated by the Jurkiw and Schwabauer families.
