What is an ebook?
An electronic book (e-book, ebook, e-Book, ebook, digital book, or even e-edition) is a book-length publication in digital form. They can contain text, images, or both. They are readable on computers or other electronic devices, like your tablets.
How do I check out an ebook?
The media center offers two different services to accesss and check out ebooks. Both services can be found using links on the media center's home page, or click the buttons below. Follet and OverDrive are described below.
When logging in to either Follet or OverDrive your username is: FirstnameLastname and your password is the same password you use to sign in to your Surface Pro tablet. If you have trouble logging in, please see Ms. Moras or Ms. Rochon in the Media Center.
To check out a book, first find the title you want by searching or browsing. Tap on the book and select Open. This lets you read the book online. Select Checkout (on the left) to add the book to your bookbag.
When reading a book, tap the center of the page to bookmark, make notes, or use the menu tools. Books that are checked out will be displayed in your Bookbag.
You can check out up to 5 books at a time. Each book can be checked out for 2 weeks. When it is due, it will disappear from your bookbag. There is always an option to return books early or to check them out again.
If the book you want is already checked out, you can place it on hold and you will be emailed when it is available.
If you hover over the image of a book with your mouse, you can see a short summary. Click Info for the full summary.
You can also read Follet books on a device other than your Surface Pro (phone, computer) by downloading the compatible app. The BryteWave K-12 Edition reader is available in the iTunes store and Google Play. To log in to the app, you will use your same username and password (as stated above) and the following code: wbb34476. This code lets the app know you are part of the NDP media center.
After you find the title you wish to check out, move your mouse over a title, then select Borrow. Or, select more to see the title’s details page. From here, select Borrow to borrow the title. If you aren't already signed in to your digital library, a sign-in page will appear. Sign in using the username and password stated above to continue.
Borrowed titles appear on your Bookshelf, under your Account. On your Bookshelf, you’ll find options for reading titles in your browser or downloading.
You can check out up to 3 titles at a time for a period of 2 weeks each. As with Follet, when a book is due it will disappear from your bookbag. There is always an option to return books early to make room for more checkouts.
If you have any questions about the eBook catalogs or want to suggest titles to add to the collection, please contact Ms. Moras or Ms. Rochon!
