MODERN LANGUAGE

Introduction to French, German, Spanish  Grade 6
Each of these survey courses is open to students in sixth grade. As semester courses, they focus on introducing students to conversation and vocabulary in everyday situations. Appreciation of other cultures is also emphasized.

French 1A  Grade 7                    French 1B  Grade 8
Seventh grade students will begin an in-depth course of study of the French language. Designed to cover two years, the course will give students a firm foundation in listening, speaking, reading and writing French. Students will explore the language through TPR and interactive activities. Various authentic materials and modern technology will supplement the textbook. The French speaking world and its culture will be studied through a myriad of hands-on activities, field trips, videos, and presentations. Students will be expected to fulfill the course requirement by taking French 1B in eighth grade.

German 1A  Grade 7                  German 1B Grade 8
This course begins an in-depth study of the German language. Students will learn basic phrases, grammar and culture through interactive, communicative assignments. Students will focus on listening and speaking skills while also developing reading and writing competency. To supplement the course content, students will work with German internet websites, audio-visuals, and other various authentic materials. Students will be expected to fulfill the course requirement by taking German 1B in eighth grade.

Spanish 1A- Grade 7                       Spanish 1B  Grade 8
Seventh grade students will begin a two-year, in-depth study of the Spanish language. This two-year course will develop a strong foundation in the four communication areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will explore the language through interactive and task-oriented assignments. The textbook will be supplemented with the regular use of technology and various authentic materials. The Hispanic speaking world and its culture will be studied through various projects, presentations, videos and field trips. Students will be expected to fulfill the course requirement by taking Spanish 1B in eighth grade.
