SCHOLARSHIPS
 
American Legion Department of Michigan: Awarding several scholarships. For Deadline dates visit online at www.michiganlegion.org.  For applications and details on these opportunities, call 517-371-4720.
 
Aquinas College-Grand Rapids, MI: Will be awarding full-tuition scholarships, plus numerous partial scholarships for academic achievement, leadership, and service. Last year, Aquinas awarded over $6 million in scholarships to students. F.Y.I.: visit www.aquinas.edu  
 
Bethel College- Indiana: The Tweener Time International Chapter Book Competition offering $20,000, $10,000 and $6,000 scholarship awards. The challenge is to write a chapter book that tweeners (8-12 year olds) will want to read. Competition is open to students enrolled in grades 9-12. The book must be a minimum of 15,000 words. All entries must be in English, original to the author, unpublished, and not submitted elsewhere until the winners are announced. Chaldean Federation of America (CFA)  If you are of Chaldean heritage and are graduating from high school or college in the winter of 2006/summer 2007 academic year, you are invited to attend the Chaldean High School and College and Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, June 14, 2007. Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation (ECI):   The foundation will provide over $151,000 scholarships annually. All high school students who are legal residents of the U. S. and have taken the SAT or ACT examination may compete. If aptitude test have not yet been taken or results not yet received, please hold your application until this information is available. Students applying during the summer are eligible to compete in the program, even if they will be college freshmen during the academic year. Application can be obtained from your school counselor or visit the website: www.ecisf.org.  Deadline: May 15, 2007.
 
 
 
Delta Upsilon Memorial Foundation:  Four scholarship awards worth $500 each
 will be awarded to young men attending the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor Campus) for the 2007-2008 school year. A completed application, copy of high school transcript, list of activities, and a 500 word personal essay is required. United States Institute of Peace: National Peace Essay Contest 2007-2008. Contest is open to all students in grades 9-12 attending secondary schools in the fifty states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories and American citizens attending schools overseas. College scholarship awards up to $10,000 and an all expense paid trip to Washington, D. C. for the week long awards program in June 2008. For more information see your school counselor or visit

University of Notre Dame: Announcing 2007 Schubmehl-Prein Essay contest for high school juniors in the 2006-07 academic year. The first place award is $1000, second place is $500 and third place is $250. Hope College, Holland, MI: Annual Pre-Professional Day for high school juniors is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Purdue University, Indiana:  The Freshman Scholars Program is for freshman entering into the School of Health Sciences. The program provides challenging experiences to students as well as a $1500 merit scholarship. The program provides the scholars with professional mentors and early career-related experiences, which are designed to enhance their chances for success in college, and beyond. Rochester Hills City Council:  Applications are now being accepted for 2007/2008 Rochester Hills Government Youth Council. Students must attend high school during the 2007/08 school year and reside in the city of Rochester Hills.  There are Thirteen (13) positions available. St John’s University: Students alumni who elect to transfer their AADA credits will be enrolled in St. John’s College of Professional Studies. AADA alumni who have successfully completed the Academy’s two-year program in New York with a GPA of 2.0 or higher may transfer up to 60 credits for courses in which they have received a passing grade. Alumni who have successfully completed the two-year program in Los Angeles are also eligible for transfer credit toward a Bachelor of Science in Television and Film. Students who have completed one year at either campus may transfer up to 30 credits. Company members may be eligible for additional credits, subject to review by St.John’s. University of Detroit Mercy:  Summer reading skills programs for children and adults offered in Pontiac and Rochester, MI. The programs are offered by the University of Detroit Mercy Special Programs and will meet in Pontiac at Midwestern Baptist College. Programs also meet at Rochester First Assembly of God. Classes meet once each week. Program for 9th-11th graders meet Friday, June 15-July 13, 3:15pm-5:45pm and Saturday, July 14-Aug.11, 12:00pm-2:30pm. Programs for 12th graders to adults meet, Thursday, July 19-August 16 at 7:00pm-9:30pm.These classes are taught by professional instructors from the Institute of Reading Development. Because the programs are offered as a community service by the University of Detroit Mercy, Special Programs, a non-profit organization, the tuition is only $299. Wayne State University: Offers a variety of Honor programs: Join the Detroit Fellows Tutoring Project. Students in all majors can earn between two and four honor credits while teaching reading skills to Detroit Public Schools pupils in kindergarten through fourth grade who need additional help. The program is open to all Wayne State University students in good standing. Tutors must complete several writing assignments about their experience in the Fellows program to complete the course.
