Notre Dame Preparatory Senior Parent Orientation

 August, 2007

Dear NDP Senior and Parent(s):

Your senior year will be a very important and exciting one. This is the time for visiting college campuses, meeting with college representatives, completing college and scholarship applications and ultimately making very important decisions. In order to accomplish this in addition to homework, athletics, clubs, part-time jobs and a social life “TIME MANAGEMENT” is essential. This means it is necessary to organize and schedule your time in order to meet your responsibilities. All of these activities must be scheduled and the “DEADLINES” must be met. The following information is an explanation of the college and scholarship application process.

·                      All completed paper college and scholarship application(s) must be submitted to your Notre Dame Prep counselor in order to be officially processed. The application(s) will be reviewed by your NDP counselor, your counselor will complete the “Counselor Recommendation Form” and an official transcript will be included with the application. Also, the NDP prospectus and profile will be included. All of the aforementioned will be mailed to the college/university directly from Notre Dame Prep School Counseling Office.   If the student wants a copy of their application, the student needs to make their own copy before submitting it to their counselor.

·                      In the event that a senior completes an electronic college application, it is the student’s responsibility to inform their counselor (in writing) as soon as possible by completing an “Electronic/Online Application Transcript Request Form.”    This is necessary for the completion of the college application process. The counselor will complete the “Counselor Recommendation Form” which must be SUBMITTED BY THE STUDENT TO THE COUNSELOR if required by the university. The counselor will also mail an official transcript to the college/university. This process will be completed within 10 regular school days from the time that the student notifies and makes a request to their counselor by completing a form available in the Notre Dame Prep Counseling Office.

·                     For processing of college and scholarship applications through NDP, please allow up to
            TEN REGULAR SCHOOL DAYS.

·                     All applications are processedIN THE ORDER THAT THE APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED BY DATE AND TIME.

·                     Your counselor is available to answer any questions or help you in any way. All you need to do is ask. All seniors will be scheduled for individual appointments and seniors may also request appointments by signing up in the counseling office. Allow your counselor up to three regular school days to schedule your appointment. If for some reason you cannot keep your appointment, notify your counselor immediately.

·                     College and scholarship applications must be submitted as “one complete package.” This includes application, check made payable to the college/university, essay (if required) and letter(s) of recommendation (if required or suggested).

·                     A courtesy of two to three weeks’ written notice is required from the faculty and administrators for any letters of recommendation requested by students. (Please date the request.) It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to request (in writing) the letter of recommendation from the teacher or administrator.

·                     A student must submit applications in sufficient time before vacations and breaks. (For example, for Christmas break, a student must submit the application by Monday, December 3rd.)

·                     The purpose of this letter is to make certain that both students and parents understand the process and, most importantly, the time requirements.

Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to working with the seniors and addressing any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
