Why did you choose Notre Dame?
I chose to come to Notre Dame because of its challenging academics, competitive athletics, and warm and welcoming community. Since I have been here I have become a better student as a result of my amazing teachers, and I have had several opportunities to be a part of sports teams that have helped me make many friends and memories.
How have you gotten involved in activities on campus?
I am a part of many different activities at NDP. I am on the board of both Environmental Club and SADD Club. I also am a member of Bee Club, Optimist Club, and National Honor Society. Finally, I am a member of the NDP marching band, the varsity tennis team, and the varsity bowling team. Prior to high school I had only bowled for fun with my friends and family. However, bowling on a team has allowed me not only to become a better bowler, but also to enjoy a fun, competitive, and supportive environment.
Which of your Notre Dame teachers has been one of your favorites?
I have had many amazing teachers at NDP who have helped further my education. However, one of my favorites is Ms. Newby. She was my AP U.S. History teacher my sophomore year, and I currently have her for AP European History. With AP U.S. History, she made a difficult class very enjoyable and fun, and I felt that I was very prepared for my AP test.
What’s been the best class you’ve taken at Notre Dame so far?
One of my favorite classes that I have taken at Notre Dame was kind of a combo, with horticulture one semester and botany the other. These classes were extremely interesting and helped to nurture my love of plants. Our teacher made the classes extremely engaging and always was willing to explain anything we were curious about.
Which Notre Dame staff member or coach do you have a special bond with?
My bowling coach, Coach Yanik, has always been super-encouraging and has always been willing to help me or any of my teammates. She has never, ever let me get down on myself and is always a positive part of my day.
What experience have you had at Notre Dame that’s been a pleasant surprise?
I was pleasantly surprised by Irish Week. I did not get to experience it freshman year because of the pandemic. I was very nervous to participate in the games in front of everyone. However, it was very fun and enjoyable—especially if you actually try to win—because everyone else was participating too. Irish Week is a very special and unique tradition at Notre Dame.
How do you try to live the Notre Dame mission as a Christian, citizen and scholar?
The school mission plays a noticeable part of the daily atmosphere and life of the students and faculty at Notre Dame. Personally, I try to live out this mission in several ways. First of all, I try to apply myself fully to anything that I do, whether it be academic or otherwise. Furthermore, I try to always do the right thing in all scenarios. While I know that I am not perfect, the school mission reminds me to try and be the best possible version of myself.
What advice would you give children and parents considering Notre Dame?
If someone is considering coming to Notre Dame, I would tell them that it is truly a wonderful place. There are many, many things to do in order to gain knowledge, make new friends, hone existing skills, and learn new things. Therefore, I definitely would urge any family to take a closer look at Notre Dame.
