Notre Dame Prep students pitch in for the Oxford community.

Notre Dame Prep students Reagan and Jackson Plas volunteered last Friday to help raise money for the victims of the Nov. 30 Oxford High School shooting.

Last Friday, Notre Dame Prep freshman Reagan Plas, her brother, Jackson, a junior, and their mom, Courtney, spent the afternoon and evening volunteering at a local Oxford restaurant, Sick Pizza Company, which was donating all of its profits to the victims of the Nov. 30 shooting at Oxford High School. Mom Courtney said it was an uplifting experience amid such a tragedy.

"We live in Oxford," she said. "These are our people and it is our town. After the unspeakable event last Tuesday, my kids felt helpless. They wanted to do something and were searching for ways to give back to their peers who were so broken."

It didn't take long to find that way.

"We volunteered at Sick Pizza, a local pizza place that was collecting donations and donating all of its profits to the victims of this senseless tragedy," she said. "They needed all hands on deck for the night. "All of their profits from Thursday thru Sunday are being donated and to dat they've raised more than $90,000 for the families directly affected. Unreal!"

She added that they worked alongside others in the community who were equally horrified by what happened and wanted to help in any way they can.

Courtney and her husband, Anthony, are pharmacists who own and operate Pine Knob Pharmacy, with locations in Clarkston and Pontiac. So they've witnessed firsthand how important it is to support the community. And their kids know it, too.

"Anthony and I are so proud of Jackson and Reagan," Courtney said. "Raising teens is no easy task, but we think Notre Dame Prep has helped mold our kids into the empathetic, kind and selfless Christians they have become. And for that we thank the school and all of the staff!"
