Science

Students learn and practice critical concepts in biology, chemistry, physics and botany in order to better understand the scientific process that governs the world around us. Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students explore the concepts, theories, models and techniques that underpin each subject area, and through these develop their understanding of the scientific method.

"My seventh-grade class focused on genetics and biology, and I absolutely loved it. I realized that science was not only about the large-scale interactions in nature, but also the interactions that took place at a cellular level. Since then, my passion for science has only grown." - Marisa Ricci, NDP sophomore

Did You Know?
  • From anatomy to astronomy, botany to entomology, Notre Dame Prep students have myriad opportunities to learn science, including through AP and IB courses for biology, chemistry and physics.
  • State-of-the-art facilities like our greenhouse, robotics lab and computer science classroom as well as frequent lab lessons bring hands-on learning to life.
  • Middle school students gain exposure to earth science, biology, astronomy and physics while building their communication, research, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Students at the lower school explore science through the IB strands of Living Things, Earth and Space, Materials and Matter, and Forces and Energy. Ultimately, they become able to analyze and evaluate data in order to draw informed, reasoned conclusions.
