Health and Physical Education

Physical education at Notre Dame is all about building up our students’ coordination and motor skills combined with reinforcing health, hygiene, safety and nutrition education and awareness.

"We want kids to love physical activity, understand the concepts, and apply those concepts, as well as health awareness, across their lifetime. These are things that can impact them forever, not just in the classroom while they are at our school." – Barbara Hall, Notre Dame Prep teacher

Did You Know?
  • Whether in the classroom, in the gym or on the field, Notre Dame Prep students learn the value of having a strong mind in a strong body. They take a required yearlong health and physical education course as freshmen, then can continue with classes like training for the athlete, yoga, and sports medicine.
  • Students in 6th and 7th grade take physical and health education for a semester, during which they continue to build their motor skills, fitness levels, and understanding of sports and other physical activities. In 8th grade, students may opt to take yoga, a class designed to improve their physical, mental and spiritual health.
  • After developing and refining gross motor and coordination skills, lower school students ultimately learn sport skills and rules, fitness standards, and the values of health, competition, initiative and leadership. Students meet for physical education twice in an eight-day rotation, and also enjoy recess every day.
