Notre Dame Prep freshman Jennifer Gaytan named a finalist in website design and coding competition highlighting "the talent of a new generation of female technologists."

The home page of ninth-grader Jennifer Gaytan's website created as part of the MCWT website design competition.

Jennifer Gaytan, a ninth grader at Notre Dame Prep, was named a finalist in the 16th annual Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation website design competition. According to Louise Palardy, NDPMA's STEM specialist, science teacher and robotics teams coordinator, Gaytan first got involved last October.

"Jennifer attended a virtual summit in the fall hosted by MCWT where she and other girls were introduced to an opportunity for students to enter a website design competition," said Palardy, who was Gaytan's coach during the design process."

This year's competition theme was "Inspiring Women," and Gaytan created a website she called "Not Just An Artist," showcasing Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter who lived in the first half of the 20th Century and was known for her portraits, self-portraits and works inspired by nature and the artifacts of Mexico.

Gaytan will be going up against other state finalists in the website design competition on Feb. 26.

Gaytan's website is here.

"As a finalist, Jennifer will be presenting her website to the judges through Zoom this Saturday, Feb. 26," said Palardy.

Gaytan and the other finalists from around the state will be demonstrating their websites and discussing why they chose their subjects and how they created their websites using coding. Judges will award monetary prizes for winners in three categories: high school advanced, high school beginner and middle school.

Good luck, Jennifer!
