Jocelyn Welsh comes to Notre Dame Prep from highly successful D1 Rochester Adams program.

Jocelyn Welsh was named the head coach for Notre Dame Prep's competitive cheer program.

The athletic department of Notre Dame Preparatory School announced today that Jocelyn Welsh has been named head competitive cheer coach, effective immediately.

“We’re very happy to welcome Jocelyn to our staff,” said Betty Wroubel, athletic director and assistant principal at NDP. “She has great credentials as a coach at both the high school and private organization levels and we look forward to her taking over our program and serving as a good role model for the team. We feel that we have put together a mission-centric staff who will continue to build upon the excellent program that cheer has become at Notre Dame for over a decade.”

Welsh will oversee a Fighting Irish cheer program that includes three new middle school coaches: Anita Honingford, Kellie Sutherland and Lori Walker, who come from the Holy Family Regional School competitive cheerleading program. Welsh's varsity assistant will be Ally Bagozzi, who comes to NDP from Allen Park High School.

Welsh comes to Notre Dame Prep from Rochester Adams High School, where she had been the assistant coach for a team that won three state championships before finishing as runner up in last year's MHSAA Division 1 final. In addition, her Adams teams have earned three league championships, five district championships and four regional titles.

Welsh also served in roles of increasing responsibility at Adams in competition management, safety protocols, practice management, vendor and fundraising coordination, and parent communication.

Prior to her tenure at Adams, Welsh was the varsity coach at Fitzgerald High School in Warren, Mich.

A member of Michigan Spirit, a Bruce Township, Mich.-based private cheerleading association, Welsh has coached and mentored individuals and school teams, teaching the proper techniques for motions, jumps, stunting and tumbling.
