Notre Dame Prep Principal Kim Anderson is with senior Rita Twal and her service award from UNA-USA.

Rita Twal, a graduating senior at Notre Dame Prep, recently earned a merit award for service to the community. Presented by the United Nations Association of the USA, Twal was recognized for more than 100 hours of service to others with special dedication to delivering impact toward "UN Global Goal: 3 – Good Health and Well-Being."

According to Twal, who is graduating May 22 with 180 NDP classmates, her service work consisted of multiple areas of focus, including volunteer activities oversea in Jordan.

In addition, she was a student planner and participant in the Border (Immigration) Immersion Experience, a partnership with Borderlinks, which connects divided communities, raises awareness about the impact of the border and immigration policies and inspires action for social transformation.

She also participated in the youth-led Immigration Conference in May of 2021; helped plan and participate in the MLK Jr. Day service event at Bound Together in Pontiac; volunteered multiple times at the Habitat for Humanity warehouse in Shelby Township (Macomb County Habitat for Humanity ReStore); tutored over 35 hours total at Bound Together; and was a student planner/participant for game night at Angels Place in Southfield (February/March of 2021).
