Longtime coach and administrator adds to her roster of at least five other hall of fame inductions.

The National High School Athletic Coaches Association, the professional organization of school coaches and athletic directors (NHSACA) in the United States, will induct Betty Wroubel of Pontiac Notre Dame Preparatory School into its National Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony for Wroubel will take place June 21, 2022, at Prairie Meadows Hotel, in Altoona, Iowa,  during the NHSACA Annual Conference in which over 500 coaches and athletic directors will participate.

"Congratulations to Pontiac Notre Dame Preparatory School and Ms. Betty Wroubel the volleyball and softball coach, and athletic director at your school, who will be one of the newest inductees into the NHSACA Hall of Fame," said a press release issued by NHSACA. "The selection and nomination for this award comes from your coach’s sport association and through the Michigan High School Coaches Association."

The NHSACA Hall of Fame selection of Wroubel reflects positively upon Notre Dame and the school community, the announcement added.

"Hall of Fame membership is based on the performance of their program over the years and/or their contribution to the sport, school and community. These were some of the criteria to determine the selection. It is indeed an honor to have Coach Betty Wroubel from Pontiac Notre Dame Preparatory School as an inductee into the NHSACA Hall of Fame.

A five-sport athlete while attending Clawson High School, Wroubel participated in basketball, volleyball, track and field, tennis and softball before going on to play volleyball, tennis and field hockey at Central Michigan University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. Wroubel earned her master’s degree in classroom teaching from Michigan State University.

In 1975, Wroubel returned to Clawson to start her career in education as both a teacher and a coach. She later moved to Pontiac Catholic, which later became Oakland Catholic, serving as the athletic director while continuing to coach. Since 1994, she has been an AD and coach at Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy while also holding additional roles, including assistant principal, co-chair of the health and physical education department, and teacher of sports medicine and leadership classes at the school. During her time at Notre Dame, she received the MHSAA Women in Sport Leadership State Award (2016) and the MHSAA Al Bush Award (2011) for noteworthy support and commitment to the MHSAA and interscholastic athletics.

Wroubel has been inducted into several other sports halls of fame, including those sponsored by the the Detroit Catholic League; Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association; Michigan High School Coaches Association; Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association; and the Michigan chapter of the United States Specialty Sports Association. As a coach, she led the Pontiac Catholic softball team to a Class C title in 1983, and Notre Dame Prep volleyball teams to Class B Division 2 titles in 2007, 2013, 2017 and 2021. She has won well more than 1,500 games as a volleyball coach and 900 games as a softball coach.

"The NHSACA and MHSCA are very proud to spotlight Betty Wroubel — a person whose work and values best mirror those of the association," the release also said.
